Celia’s Choir provides sweet music and over £3k for Cancer Charity

At a recent rehearsal Peebles choir InChorus was delighted to host the presentation of a cheque, for a sizable amount raised at one of their concerts, to Macmillan Cancer Support.

The choir lost a much loved founder member, Celia Hayton, to cancer last year. In her memory, her family and friends organised a concert, staged by Celia’s choir InChorus, in her home town of West Linton. At this wonderful evening the audience donated to Macmillan, and the outstanding total after costs was £3,222.InChorus sing to raise money for Cancer Charity

The cheque was presented by Celia’s daughter, Grace, and granddaughters, Heather and Amy, to Angela McCormack, the South East Scotland Area Manager of Macmillan Cancer Support. Angela said, “We are truly humbled by this fantastic donation which will be used to help people affected by cancer. Such donations are used to assist both sufferers and their families by supporting them emotionally, financially, medically and practically. We want to thank Celia’s family, friends, the people of West Linton, and InChorus for their efforts on the charity’s behalf.”

Celia’s daughter, Grace Hayton, said, “All through the six years of her illness, Mum was impressed with the support she received from Macmillan. Their nurses, together with her family, friends and, of course, her beloved InChorus, kept her positive and cheerful throughout her illness and treatments.”

Grace continued, “Macmillan Cancer Support was Mum’s chosen charity, and, between the collection at her funeral, the concert, and donations from her friends, we have now raised over £5000. She would have been so chuffed!”
